Coincidentally, my close friends Carl and Lucinda are in LA this week visiting their kids and grandkids. So today we met for lunch! It seemed odd to be here together, rather than Cleveland or Ann Arbor, but also quite natural, like we are on vacation together. I got to meet Carl’s son Josh’s wife, Mona, and 1 year old grandson Gideon. (Lucien was at preschool.) Mona reminded me that she was close friends with Maria, who used to be my tenant at Touchstone. Another “what a small world it is” story.

After lunch and a little window shopping in Silver Lake area of LA, I headed to the Autry Museum of the American West. There was a great exhibit called Masters of the American West, with a wide range of styles, mediums and subjects, but all focused on the West. I especially enjoyed the Cowboy Gallery and the exhibits on the settlement of the West by different immigrant groups and how they evolved. Unfortunately, I only had an hour there but I would definitely go back another time to see it more closely.
And for the most authentic Los Angeles experience — the 1-1/2 hours it took to get back to Joyce and Eric’s, on what should have been a 25 minute trip. LA freeways and traffic is absolutely the worst!
What I learned today: 1. A great way to label my photos when I work on them to make it easier to create a photo book, taught to me by Eric; and 2. Don’t drive anywhere in LA after 4 pm.
