I left LA after figuring out my next few days with Eric’s help. First stop, Joshua Tree National Park. It was amazing! I never really appreciated the desert before. These trees are so cool standing so tall and straight. One area of the park has these huge majestic rocks that are quite climbable. At the base though, there were patches of snow! Then as you go south in the park, the vegetation changes. No Joshua trees and instead there were cholla cactus as far as you could see. As I was leaving the park, i could see that if I waited around, I could watch the sun set over the mountains. But I had to get to Blythe, so I left. As I drove east I could see the sun set in my rearview menu. Next time I’ll drive longer in the dark if I have to and I’ll stick around to watch the sunset.

What I learned today: 1. Stick around and watch the sunset if you can; and 2. There’s snow on the mountains in California!

  1. I love Joshua Tree. Our nephew got married in Joshua Tree up on a rock formation. Has the park recovered from the time of the government shut down? I believe there was damage from people off-roaring in areas they shouldn’t have been, etc.
