The other day when we were at Taco Haven, I noticed there was tongue tacos on the menu. So, back we went for breakfast today, but Tongue tacos is actually kind of weird. Too thick, and hot. Once I sliced it thinner though, it was delicious, especially with the homemade tortillas.

I drove out to see the Mission Conception. Dedicated in 1755, Mission Concepción appears very much as it did over two centuries ago. It is the oldest unrestored stone church in America. There are no compound walls like at San Jose Mission, but the church itself, like at all the Missions, is still used by it parishioners.

Texas Barbeque was our choice for lunch — so Kathi drove us out to the Smoke Shack, another local favorite. Definitely authentic, delicious and very popular.

We didn’t just eat — we also went to two art museums. The San Antonio Art Museum had a fantastic photography exhibit and a beautiful piece by Chihully. Many of the photos were “street photography,” and many were significant photos from the 1900s, such as “Migrant Mother” by Dorothea Lange. The McNay Museum also was great. Their “Classic Car” exhibit matched gorgeous old cars with paintings from the years those cars were made. The museum has primarily contemporary art, but also significant European and American art.

Dinner was happy hour again, with Margaret and Bob, and Kathi, this time at Liberty Bar. We stopped at the H.E.B. grocery store on the way home for Magnum bars. Perfect ending to a wonderful day.
What I learned today: 1. I like collards; and 2. Texas barbeque is not necessarily spicy hot.
