My last morning in San Antonio was spent at the Institute of Texan Cultures. This museum highlights the many ethnic groups that settled in Texas, starting with the Indian tribes, up to 20th century immigrants. These photos are primarily from exhibits on Comanche and Apaches, and then the cowboy culture. Most of the exhibits though followed settlement from one country, such as Scotland, Germany, and Denmark. Not surprising, one section was on Jews — but this was not related to what country came from, just Jewish culture. I found this interesting. Overall, though, the museum is well done. I never knew that there was such diversity in this state.

Before heading to Austin I stopped at the Mercado and bought 3 more bottles of pure vanilla extract. Best deal in town.

Once again, I hit the road. And reached a milestone — 6000 miles driven since leaving Ann Arbor.
After an hour or so of driving, I arrived at Michele and Marshall’s condo in Austin. After dinner at a Peruvian Restaurant and went to the show at Esther’s Follies. The show, running since the 1970s, includes political parody, like Capital Steps, but is much raunchier, and also stars a magician. Absolutely hysterical!
What I learned today: 1. The term for persons of mixed European and Native American heritage is mestizo. Tijana is also used more often for Texans; and 2. The name Buffalo Cowboys was given to the Black cavalry by Native American tribes who fought in the Indian wars.

Today was Al’s surgery day to repair his broken ankle. A long, exhausting day for me but In the end I relaxed on my journey with you. Love these photos. I especially love the dashboard photo. Isn’t the cruise control with automatic car length adjust the best!
Yes, I love all the safety features on my outback. Hope Alan has an easy and quick recovery
